Aftercare advice

What to expect and how to look after yourself after each kind of treatment at Elmet Aesthetics in Sherburn in Elmet.

This is general guidance. We'll give you advice specific to you at your appointment, and if you are ever worried afterwards, get in touch or seek medical advice.

Aesthetics Treatments

What to expect

  • A consultation first, covering your medical history, what you'd like to change and realistic results.
  • The treatment itself is quick, using very fine needles in the agreed areas.
  • Results build gradually over around two weeks.
  • A consultation to plan the treatment, including how much product is sensible.
  • Numbing is used where appropriate and you will see the result as we go.
  • Some swelling is normal straight afterwards and the final look settles over a couple of weeks.

Aftercare

  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for the rest of the day.
  • Stay upright and avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and hot baths for 24 hours.
  • Small marks or tiny bumps can appear and usually settle within hours.
  • Let us know if anything seems wrong, or if the results aren't what we agreed.
  • Avoid touching or pressing the area, and avoid make-up on it for the rest of the day.
  • Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and hot baths for 24 hours.
  • Swelling, tenderness or bruising can happen and usually settles within days.
  • Contact us promptly if you notice severe pain, colour changes in the skin or anything unusual.

Specialist Facial Treatments

What to expect

  • We assess your skin and talk through the plan, including how many sessions are usually advised.
  • Your skin is cleansed and prepared before the treatment, and numbing is used if suitable.
  • Your skin may be pink or feel warm afterwards, and this usually settles within a day or two.

Aftercare

  • Use a high-factor SPF daily and avoid strong sun while your skin recovers.
  • Use only gentle skincare for the first few days and avoid active ingredients until we say otherwise.
  • Avoid make-up, swimming, saunas and intense exercise for the first 24 hours.
  • Don't pick or peel any flaking skin; let it come away naturally.

  • Keep skin hydrated with a gentle moisturiser.
  • Use SPF daily and keep skin well hydrated.
  • Avoid heavy make-up for a few hours so skin can settle.
  • Introduce active skincare slowly if your skin feels sensitive.

Massage Therapy

What to expect

  • A quick chat about any problem areas, injuries or preferences before we start.
  • You only undress as far as you are comfortable, and you are kept covered throughout.
  • Tell us at any point if you would like the pressure lighter or firmer.

Aftercare

  • Drink water and take it easy for the rest of the day if you can.
  • Mild tenderness the next day is normal after deeper work.
  • Heat, such as a warm bath, can help tired muscles settle.

Eyelash Care

What to expect

  • A patch test at least 24 hours before your first appointment, to check for any reaction.
  • You lie back with your eyes closed throughout, and the treatment is relaxing and painless.
  • Your lashes and brows are shaped and tinted to suit you.

Aftercare

  • Keep lashes and brows dry for 24 hours: no steam rooms, saunas or swimming.
  • Avoid oil-based make-up removers and rubbing your eyes.
  • Contact us straight away if you notice any irritation or redness around your eyes.

Waxing

What to expect

  • Please let us know in advance if your skin is sensitive or you are using retinoids or similar products.
  • Hair needs to be long enough for waxing; we will confirm this when you book.

Aftercare

  • Avoid hot baths, saunas, sunbeds and tight clothing for 24 hours.
  • Don't scratch or exfoliate straight away; wait a couple of days.
